F.A.Q. - PLUS-orders

Scanning details

PLUS - Technical details for the digital images

The originals are scanned and stored in JPEG format (jpg) or TIFF (tif). The resolution equals photos taken with a digital camera at approximately 20 megapixels (negatives and slides) or 30 megapixels (10x15 photos).

The digital size of paper photos depends strongly on the original size. If the paper photo we scan is larger than 10x15 the resolution will be equally higher and vice versa.

As a comparison, The TV standard "Full HD" equals 2.1 megapixels.

  • Negatives are inverted to positives before they are saved as digital images
  • Images transferred from memory cards to discs are kept in their original format
  • TIFF images are stored at 16 bit depth without compression

As JPEG is a format that provides many more images per disc without visible quality losses we recommend to use JPEG as file format.

Most of today's DVD-players can show the images we produce despite the high resolution. The digital photos can be developed at poster size with good photo quality.

There are sample customer images available to show the quality of our STANDARD services. When using our PLUS services you get even more options to meet your specific requirements on the handling of your images.

You can edit and print the images on any standard computer or use them as input for paper copies made by a photo store. If you have the knowledge and equipment you can also use the images when creating e.g. invitations, slideshows or electronic scrapbooks.

PLUS - Can I have my images saved in different folders

When making a PLUS-order you decide how you want the images to be saved by us. Use the back of your order form or attach a separate note on how you want the folders to be organised on the disc or the external memory.

  • You decide the name of a folder
  • Remember to group the originals you send to us in a similar fashion

Example: You have slides in a slide magazine that you mark as “€¯Summer of 78”¯ and also an envelope with photos and negative strips that you call “Annes photos”. On the back of your order form you specify two folders with these names. Your digital images will be put in these folders and they can all be viewed on the same DVD-player or computer.

For PLUS-orders with the digital photos scanned and stored in different folders it is most convenient to pack the originals in different envelopes or bags marked with the same name as the folder they should be stored in. All these are then put into the same box for the full order.

Please note that some DVD-players are unable to handle too many sub-folders and very few players are not able to handle folders at all.

It is most suitable to specify folder structures for orders that will be managed on a computer or where you know that the DVD-player can handle folders and sub-folders.

PLUS - What are IPTC tags

When taking photos with digital cameras the images get invisible “tags” with extended information, e.g. aperture or date and place for when the picture was shot. There are also tags where the photographer can specify keywords, e.g. to describe the motive.

The standard used is called IPTC and is used by all major photo websites, e.g. Flickr, to index and search images. It is fully integrated in e.g. Windows Vista from Microsoft and Picasa from Google.

When you make a PLUS-order you can specify up to five keywords that we tag all images with when they are being transferred to digital images. Your photos immediately become searchable via the keywords when you upload them on the Internet or keep them in your computer.

PLUS - Technical details for the discs

  • The DVDs store approximately 1000 JPEG images and are delivered in the DVD-R format
  • If you choose TIFF the delivery may be on DVD or an external memory due to file size

Orders & Deliveries

PLUS - How do I get my images delivered on harddisk drive

Our ordinary delivery is on disc, but for our PLUS customers we also deliver on external memory (harddisk drive or USB flash).

When we deliver on an external memory we do *not* deliver double copies, i.e. only one copy is included in the price. We do not charge you any extra for the memory used instead of disc.

Conditions for delivery on external memory instead of disc are found here.

Pricing policy

PLUS - Discount

We give a 10 percent discount on orders of 2.000 images or more. You need not tell us, as we will deduct the discount as soon as the number of images are enough.

For PLUS-orders of at least 2.000 images we also include delivery on an external memory (harddisk drive, USB flash or SD card) at no extra cost. You specify on the PLUS order form if you want delivery on discs or an external memory.

Conditions: The discount need not be specified by the customer at the time of making an order. The discount is only valid for transferring of images to DVD or external memory, and can therefore not be used to pay for shipping fees or other services. The discount can be combined with other offers.
